July 17, 2002 - Can't get enough of the Mescaleros? Well you're in luck! Martin Slattery, Scott Shields and a number of other Meskys are joining Paul Heaton of The Beautiful South as the backing band for his upcoming solo gigs. Slattery and Shields helped to co-write and co-produce his "Fat Chance" album which will be released on July 22nd. Here is a paragraph on this from his website:"'Fat Chance' began as a wish list of talents to collaborate with that included Joe Strummer and Lionel Richie but which dwindled rapidly when none could meet the tight deadline. Strummer kindly suggested the duo of Martin Slattery and Scott Shields, currently his sidekicks in The Mescaleros. Slattery has featured in Black Grape's line up and produced Catatonia while Shields has worked with Johnny Marr. The initial results of their collaboration were so encouraging the line up became fully integrated into the project as co-writers/players and producers with The Beautiful South's regular studio man Jon Kelly occupying the padded leather executive producer seat."
For more information on this, check out the Official Paul Heaton website The tour dates are next week and are as follows:
Monday July 22, Glasgow Garage tickets: 0141 339 8383
Tuesday July 23, Manchester University tickets: 0161 832 1111

The Only Website That Matters has re-done the look of their site, which looks great and Satch's message board has moved again so that there aren't any ads. I have taken the sections that used to be "Video Interviews" and "Video Shows" and combined them into one link called "Multimedia Shows & Interviews". I also pulled any radio shows off of the articles page and added them to the "Multimedia" page as well. Hopefully, this will make the site a little easier to navigate. I added some new additions to the "Multimedia" page from the House of Blues and others.
Satch has added three new message boards to his existing Strummer Message Board. I have added the update to the "Links" page.

January 5, 2002 - Websites are springing up everywhere for the new year! Strummersite.com has recently been reformatted and updated. The Only Website That Matters is coming along nicely and includes a new feature called "Charlie Don't Surf" which contains explanations and links for a lot of the name dropping in Strummer's lyrics. I have also added a new link to the Joe Strummer Database which has very cool stories from attendence at various Strummer gigs and looks to be a promising website. Long time fan Satch has created a new Strummer Message Board on which I discovered the next bit of latest information on the Black Hawk Down soundtrack.
The songs featured on the Black Hawk Down soundtrack will be mostly numbers composed by Hans Zimmer. These include: "Hunger", "Vale of Plenty", "Chant", "Still", "Mogadishu Blues", "Synchrotone", "Bakara", "Of the Earth", "Ashes to Ashes", "Tribal War", "Leave No Man Behind", and "Still Reprise". Other artists' songs include "Barra Barra" by Taha and Hillage, "Gortoz A Ran - J'Attends" by Denez Prigent and of course track number 14 which will be Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros doing "Minstrel Boy". It is listed as the "film version" and all indications point to this being a different version than is on "Global A Go-Go".
I have also added a link to One*Iota, Smiley's new band. Smiley is the former drummer of the Mescaleros. Check them out under the "Recommended Artists" section of the "Links" page. You can get tour dates and hear a few of their tunes on their website.
